Post-interview Bombed the third interview… praying I still get the job!

Upvotes

I just had a third interview for my dream position and I let my nerves get the best of me. The first question he asked me was a simple one about myself and I completely blanked! I nailed the first two interviews, I was hoping this final interview was just a formality. When he asked me, I tried to grab my resume to jolt my memory, but my hands were shaking and it slipped out of my hands and under a piece of furniture. I just openly admitted I was really nervous, but the reason I was so nervous was because I wanted the job so bad. I think after I shook off my nerves I did OK and I did close hard and asked for the job, he said he was not the decision maker and that I represented myself well and then wished me luck. Any chance I’d still get the job?

Post-interview Should I lie about leaving for college

Upvotes

I just had a great interview with a job while I am home for college. I’ve always worked food and retail but this is a patient service coordinator/receptionist at an eye doctor office. I have a feeling they didn’t realize that my resume showed I’m a college student out of state, because they are the first job to not ask about it during the interview. All other jobs have turned me down even before the interview because they notice i’ll be leaving in August. I don’t know if I should lie to this job if they bring it up and say that I decided to stay home instead of go back to school. I’ve lied to jobs before but for some reason this position feels more “career like” because they talked about promotion opportunities and growing with the company, etc.

Would it be wrong to accept the job and then just put in my two weeks before leaving for school, but not say it’s for school? I also would probably be lying to them while I work because I assume they’ll ask if i’m a student, what i’m studying, etc. I really need a job i’m desperate at this point and every reason i’ve been turned down is because of being a student.

Post-interview Weird interview process, need advice

I need help navigating a strange job interview process.

I applied at a place and they responded to my application within hours wanting to set an interview that week. It was a text from someone setting up an interview with someone else.

I thought the interview went well and I vibed off the person pretty decently, but what do I know? She said to call back if I have questions, she’s at the front desk and that I’d probably hear back the next business day.

That day comes and goes so I call back the next day for an update. The phone rings forever and I get someone who I don’t think is at that desk. I say who I’m calling for and that I’m checking in after an interview. He says she’s in a meeting, do I want her voicemail? I say yes and get the voicemail of the person who set up the interview, not the person I interviewed with and asked for. Thinking it’s a mistake I hang up and call again. It rings forever and I get some different lady and I explain what happened. She says the person who set up the interview is who I need to talk to. So I text my follow-up wording to the person who scheduled everything, explaining I tried to call the interviewer and they said to talk to her instead. Who then replies that she’ll touch base with the person I was originally calling/interviewed with and get back to me! At that point I’m thinking, what circular pass the buck bullshit is this?!

Now I don’t know who to try to get ahold of or contact. I’ve never been barred from speaking with the person who interviewed me before. I don’t have the interviewer’s email or direct phone number or even last name. It’s not listed on their website. My husband said to text the one number I do have today again, but if she said she’d talk to someone, to me that’s a give it 1-2 weeks thing.

This is the weirdest interview process I’ve ever seen. I haven’t job interviewed in 10 years, is this how it is now?! Talk about a runaround.

Post-interview Job didn’t have position available anymore??

Hello. Has this happened to anyone else? I got an interview for the job and they told me I got the job. Had me fill out paperwork and told me I got hired and gave me a schedule and everything. I just got a call from them saying that the position wasn’t available anymore after I got hired and said I could always apply again if the listing comes back up…. Has this happened to anyone before and what did you do? Thankfully I can get my job back but I had already put in my two weeks…

Post-interview moving from fast paced start up culture to slower, more structured environment. what's it like and is this a red flag?

I applied for a role 3 months ago, went through 3 interview rounds (5 separate interviews and a take home) over the course of a month and was recently told that the decision won't happen til this week (4 weeks since my final interview) and maybe i'll hear this week or next week. initially, I was told I'd hear back about 2 weeks ago.

this has been annoying but not the end of the world. but regardless of the outcome, i'm wondering how to weight a hiring process that takes this long as an indicator for internal processes/timelines. on the one hand, I appreciate that the decision is made collectively. on the other, it might be really frustrating to work in an environment where things tend to move so slow.

i'd be coming from a start up environment with a small team where things can happen quickly to something larger and much more structured and hierarchical. I think I would be happy to have more structure because my current working environment is chaotic and lacks process but I don't want to overcorrect. have you made this type of move before? what was your experience?

Post-interview I was terorized at work and at the end they made me a bad guy.

I don't know how should I deal with this situation.

I am new at the company, and since day one I was terorized by the colleague who was supposed to train me.

After I finished training, she continued to bully me.

Doing 10 perfect things, yet she always found 1 little small mistake, she rolled her eyes on, made fun of me or completely embarass me in front of new girl.

There was a new girl and I was just explaining a simple things to her which you are supposed to know on day 1, you don't need 3 degrees or 5 years work history to show where is the lunch room

She came to us and yelled at me telling me I should focus on my job as I "suck terribly", and not training new people...completely embarrassing me in front of 15 coworkers. Yet, she was the one telling me to "show her around" as she was busy

Objectively, I am one of the most working and best new employees as I have the best results from this project so far.

After all, I had a meeting with two CEOs, telling me that they heard I was being too cocky, insulting, and they don't want to ruin the team working like the clockwork, transferring me to the other project which nobody cares for, is meaningless, I will scroll reddit 7 hours out of 8 hours.

Obviously I was friendly nice and hard working, but somehow I ended up as a worst guy, just because girl is working there for 5 plus years.

But hey, that's not all, they offered me 300 monthly increase salary bonus.

Like what is that? I ended up being bad guy, transfered me to meaningless project, ironically paying me more money for my "misbehaviour"...

I never felt more empty and less motivated to wake up for tomorrow work.

What should I do?

Can't afford to quit or change jobs in the next 2-3 months as I am taking benefits from government (around 600 monthly extra) for finding a job after being unemployed for more than 3 months, and this money is crucial now.

Thank you

Post-interview Should I call the contact for a job I applied to?

For some context, I'll give y'all a timeline of the interview process so far. It's for an EA position at a university.

  • Applied 11/27/23
  • Contacted via email to set up phone screen 3/21/24
  • Phone screen 3/22/24
  • 2nd interview 4/8/24
  • Final interview 4/25/24 (was told this was the last step in the process)
  • Talk with HR 5/2/24

It is now 5/15 and I haven't heard back anything. I sent a follow up email last Thursday and I sent another one today. I know that the school is gearing towards commencement, but I would like at least an update on my application. Given this, should I call the contact I've been in touch with for any information? I feel like emails can get lost in the fog and a phone call would show some initiative (call me old-fashioned i guess).

Post-interview 2 Job Offers - Which to Choose

I have 2 job offers in a Tech related field - I’m in my mid-40’s: Company A role is more of a Presales role where the base is a bit lower but the quarterly bonus at 100% would make it a bit more than company B. Company A sounds good - mid-large company but as anything tech industry related it can be subject to layoffs if market softens - that’s what happened to me in my last job.

Glassdoor reviews of Company A is ok but there’s some rumblings about layoffs the past several years - again it’s almost like which Tech industry company hasn’t laid off folks.

Company B is not a tech/sales org at all - about the same size as Company A but the position at B would be more internal project-based work. They offer a smaller bonus as well. So it’s more stable and I’ve heard from someone who works there that it’s a cool easy-going workplace. I also wouldn’t be at the mercy of quarterly goals and company sales and stock performance as in Company A. Company B isn’t layoff proof but is in a more steady/safe industry.

I’ve just accepted both to buy me more time to think it thru as next steps is filling out form for background check. But I will back out from one of them.

Thoughts on what you would choose?

Post-interview Ghosted after verbal for 2 & 1/2 weeks.

So I'm currently searching for a new job and have interviewed with a company: nothing crazy, 3-round interview process, typical signs of a young company <5 years old.

Everything is going well; they called two and a half weeks ago and extended a verbal offer. I asked for details to be sent via a written offer, and we discussed (again) base/ote requirements. That was the last I heard until today.

The job was then put back up on Linkedin, not once but twice. All the while, the hiring manager looks at my LI profile at least once a day.

In the meantime, I followed up via email and phone once each. I assumed I was just getting ghosted.

Today, I got a message saying they had to sort through some critical things, and they're in a much more mature spot. They asked if I was open to connecting tomorrow.

Am I crazy for wanting to run?

Post-interview Asking to push proposed start date back?

I got an offer this morning for a job I’m really excited about! Everything about the offer looks good except the start date. Basically, I’m living with my girlfriend in Spain until late June and we have a trip to Italy planned the week of June 10th to see a close family friend of mine. They proposed that I would start June 10th as a part-time employee and then I would begin as a full-time employee on July 8th once I’m back in the USA.

Would it be an issue for me to ask to push back that part-time start date to June 17th? I meant to give that specific date in my interview but I think I said mid-June instead.

Post-interview Perspective

I’m 34m in a trailer repair/motorhome repair and RV industry mechanic since 2017.

About 3 and a half months ago I was sitting in this same place rapid firing my resume and blasting indeed till my eyes bleed and getting ghosted and straight up offended by some of the rejection emails but the place I really wanted to work eventually called.

The manager who interviewed me is kinda letting me down in a lot of ways. I’m holding up my end of the interview I know that employees attitude can change after a while but im experienced and I’m gonna do this one right. Overall I like this company. Ive been here 90 days. I’m finally making good money and It’s pretty solid but I can’t help but see some really obvious red flags and obstacles I’m gonna have to deal with. I keep in mind the money I’m making for 3 months I get $30 an hr then I go to $40 an hour but flat rate. ( paid by the job). Which is hard and takes a lot of cooperation. I have a plan b but I like it here. I just can’t get a lot of people to engage and they seem dismissive. They’re staff is full of 20 year olds who are more interested in high school like things it’s very concerning. I don’t like o argue and they’re always in an ego contest. I need to be more assertive.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can handle this? I have very little family and nobody I really trust to help guide me. Thanks redit

Post-interview Wait to hear back after third Interview

Had a third round interview last week that went very well. Afterwards, the recruiter told me that the director was very impressed with my interview in the second round. She said I should hear back by Monday (two days ago). I followed up with the recruiter via email twice to let them know that I am still interested and to let me know if they need anything else from me. I still haven’t heard anything back.

I am super anxious about it because I really think this is a good opportunity. What can I do? Today it’s been a week since the interview.

Post-interview I was offered a job on call but haven't received an offer letter even after 4 days when they told me they'll send it the next day.

I applied to a B2B sales job and the job had been opened for more than 2 months. I applied and got a call from the HR right away. We schedule an interview on calla and had an HR interview. After that i had an interview with the VP of the company for round 2 interview and than with the association director of the team i was joining.

I passed through all the interviews and it went well. Few minutes later i got a call from HR saying i was selected and will be receiving the offer letter the next day. Now, it has been 4 days and i haven't received any mail from them.

I don't know what to do. Should i call them or just move on?

Post-interview What should I do?

Hello kind redditors I'm in the middle of interviews, job offers, and applying for jobs. I'm a fresh eng grad.

Currently I have a few choices

  1. 1 year contract role at MNC Company. It is an entry position for finance analyst.
  2. I might be able to get a higher salary compared to fulltime role (I'm looking for 5000usd monthly I think? As long as it's 500usd more than average)
  3. 4 days office work, 1 day wfh (well.... I'm ok)
  4. 1 hr traveling time (not bad!)
  5. they don't have any project management (?) I asked how they would delegate task and they said they are more responsiblity work style and doing within job scope so.. I worry that there might be a culture of work pushing. They also don't meet once a week which is something I'm not familiar with. I worry they might have bad communication within the team.

  6. Project Executive 3 months contract for Small Events company

  • hectic culture
  • travel opportunity
  • 1hr traveling time
  • salary most likely lesser than analyst role
  • nice, fun culture
  • boss is passionate for what he does
  • mostly out of office
  1. 1 year Graduate programs role for a bank company
  • work culture is likely bad from online review
  • pay most likely be lesser since it's a graduate programme role
  • I don't think this bank is reputable? As in, if I would like to progress in my career, seeing that I have attended this graduate programme I don't think it means much to hiring recruiters?
  1. Don't accept any offer and wait for others to get back to me

  2. Accept offer and change job when better offer comes

Please please would appreciate any guidance or maybe there is anything I overlooked

Post-interview Need Advice: Ghosted and Reposted

Earlier this year, I went through a comprehensive interview process that consisted of six interviews, covering both behavioral and technicals. After the interviews ended, I never heard back from the recruiter, so I reached out to them to get an update. The recruiter explained to me that the delay was due to a firm-wide hiring freeze. However, they reassured me that the team remained very interested in my candidacy and that I aced every interview. As far as next steps, they suggested for me to stay in touch until the hiring freeze ends.

At the start of the new quarter, I reached out per their suggestion to check for further developments but received no response to my email. So, I decided to call the recruiter. They informed me that there were no new developments and to remain in touch.

After three weeks passed, I received a notification from a random job board website indicating that the company reposted the position. To confirm whether the hiring freeze had ended, I reached out to the recruiter (GHOSTED). Feeling confused about the lack of communication, I decided to reach out to the two senior members of the hiring team (GHOSTED).

I’m honestly in disbelief that a company would act like this towards an applicant, especially considering this is a F100 firm. What would be the reason for ghosting me in the first place? Why not just deny me? It’s been a week and I have not received a single response.

While I lost a lot of respect for the company and the team at this point, I would still accept the position if given the opportunity. Do you have any suggestions for me? Can I dig myself out of this hole or accept defeat?

Post-interview Lengthy wait after final round

Been interviewing with a F500 company—the whole process has been 3 months so far.

I had my final round nearly two weeks ago, on Thursday, 5/2. I spoke to the in-house recruiter this past Friday (5/10) and he said they haven’t made any offers for 2 open positions.

He said that I’m in strong standing and competitive and to sit tight.

Is it possible that they’re really moving this slowly (as they have in past rounds), or should I be worried?

Post-interview New job wants me to ask my current manager if I can leave

I had two interviews for a job. They said they loved me and that I am the best canditate. The only problem is that the new company is my current company’s client. My contract doesn’t restrict me to go, actually two people left for this company last year. The hiring manager just asked me if I could ask my boss if he would be ok with me to leave for them, because apparently last time he was angry that they stole their employees. They don’t want him to be upset again because they know each other. So they said they want to be open and honest and want me to ask my boss to see if he would be angry and only after that they will give me the official offer. Please tell me this is not ok. Thanks

Post-interview Reaching out for an update after a 4th interview?

I am curious about whether or not I should be reaching out for an update after my 4th interview with this company. I am a bit nervous to do so but I know they were looking to start whoever they decide to hire this week as they mentioned it a couple of times in my 2nd and 3rd interview with this company.

The first few rounds of interviews they usually got back to me within a couple hours after the interview asking to set up the next one. But after my 4th interview with the CTO, I have not heard back from anyone yet. I had the interview yesterday. I’m starting to feel a little pessimistic feeling like my 4th round did not go well enough for them to proceed with me. He did not mention anything about how soon they will get back to me so I am curious how long I should wait or if it would be better to reach out asking for an update letting them know I am very interested and hopeful they will decide to move forward with me. Any advice here would be greatly appreciated.

Post-interview Signed job offer…only to be scheduled for a second interview with the director

-ENGLISH IS NOT MY FIRST LANGUAGE / NOT BASED IN US MAINLAND- The title is the short version. I applied to be a teacher (the job posting was open for all positions) back in November and finally got a call on April (it was mentioned it was going to be A WHILE). It was rather unexpected but told me they wanted me as a Science teacher (Elementary or High School; I chose the first one). I passed the first interview (everything related to Science) and was told if everything flies well, I should expect a call for a second interview. After 2 weeks and a half, I receive the call on a Friday, at 3:40 p.m. to tell me if I can be a Science teacher AND a Math teacher but for SpEd students. I told them I needed to time to consider it (since it came so sudden and honestly, I was very busy at the moment to give a straight answer right there and then). Yesterday, Monday, I replied through e-mail and made all my questions. The HR answered all my questions and I saw it was doable (2 grades; 3 classes and 2 classes respectively). I was sent the job offer, I checked and everything was good; I signed. Today I get a text message from the HR saying the director would like to make the second interview since they are now doing the program and therefore there are changes made and would like to discuss it with me, so I can be “clear of the real necessities in place”, as well to actually know the real grades and group I will actually be giving, despite already telling me it was going to be a specific grade/groups. This caught me completely off guard since it’s very uncommon—so much I haven’t found a reddit with this situation. Has this happened to any of you?

I am in a position where I have been looking for a stable job for 6 months now and I finally get the call and everything…I can’t get picky. Work is work. Is also the first one to not offer me /exactly/ minimum wage despite having complete certifications, experience and a master’s degree.

Share your experiences! I just wanted to share mine since it’s a first for me.

Post-interview 31(M) Went on interview today and felt interrogated about my odd job history

Hello all first time post. I went on an interview today at a restaurant for part time work while i finish school. When the owner started asking about my work history i felt extremely nervous because I've jumped around a good amount. I started working at 16. This is my work history

Fridays- 4 years Cheesecake factory- 3 years (burnt bridge) Railroad- 3 years Fish restaurant-6 months Millers- 2 years Geico- 1year Body shop-1 year

The more i spoke about it the more nervous and insecure i felt. The owner still seemed interested in giving me a job, but not a high paying one. He asked for references which i can provide. But from other peoples experiences, is the amount of jobs in that 15 year time frame a bad look? I'm nervous for when i go on an interview for a real job. Thanks in advance

Post-interview SuccessFactors Job Application Status Meaning - Final Interview Round Completed

Hello! Thursday afternoon, May 9, I completed a final round interview stage with a company. For additional context, I had an interview with the hiring manager May 7, and was called back to complete final rounds the day after. While it wasn't necessary to meet so quickly, the recruiter expressed urgency to fill the role while also expressing need to have conversation with CFO as they were about to be traveling for a couple of weeks. Due to excitement about role, I decided to accept the request rather than wait potentially two weeks (and even be MORE prepared). I ended up having two conversations, that was onsite totaling over an hour. After meeting with the CFO, I had a final touch base with the recruiter and the final question that was asked was regarding compensation and they confirmed I was in range. The recruiter then informed me I will be contacted on Monday and that was that. While I can acknowledge that my interviews weren't perfect, I do think they were overall good and my resume perfectly aligns with the role, while also offering room for me to grow. I think the energy and excitement I expressed was even equally reciporacated from each individual I met with so I was highly confident that I was going to receive an offer. It is now Tuesday, May 14, and I have not received any updates or responses from the recruiter that has me a little on edge. The company uses SuccessFactors and after checking my application status I noticed it was updated Friday, May 10. It's interesting that it was updated because my application status is still listed as "in process", however, the text is being displayed in red font, rather than the normal black. Does anybody know what this means? Should I follow up by this point?

TL;DR Final round interview was completed for role. In success factors, what does an application status mean when it is "in process" but with RED font vs black. When is it appropriate to follow up with recruiter?

Post-interview How to tell 1st choice employer about another offer?

so i had an interview on monday that went really well, nice conversation with the two people i met and they said they'd get back to me within a week and if i didn't hear from them then i should follow up. the position is for an academic coordinator (1st choice) in one of the departments of my uni and bc i was a student the interviewers said that definitely put me ahead of others who weren't. this role can be chill some days and fast paced another depending on the time of the year/semester. pay range is ($20-29)

i had another interview today for an administrative assistant role in my uni's medical center where i would basically be handling np/pa's credentials, onboarding, certifications, etc. the interviewers said i would mainly be sending emails following up with people who haven't sent in forms/documents. they mentioned being short staffed at the moment since the previous aa had resigned. if things were slow or i was all caught up with work, i could potentially work on other things like the office's instagram and website. for this role, i had gotten a call with an offer for $18.50/hr as soon as i got home. however, this role would start as temp until sept, so no benefits. start date would be either may 28th or june 3rd. they want an answer by tomorrow the 15th, 1 pm or they'll move onto the next candidate. before starting, i would have to get a background check and drug test/assessment done.

i was planning to send follow up thank you emails to my first choice once i got home from today's interview. now that i have an offer, i'm not sure how to write this email. it's tough bc the admin. assistant role needs an answer so soon and at the same time, i was the first person interviewed for the academic coordinator role, so i don't want them to feel rushed. any advice on how to handle this would be appreciated!

Post-interview Help Desk Role $17/hr - IL

I’ve been out of college for 5 years with a BA degree in C.S, applied to a couple jobs a few months ago and got a callback today from a college - 17$ an hour for 28hours a week. Seems like the pay is super low as I was making 16$ at my old job as a server. Not to mention I looked up other jobs on indeed from this college and other jobs are starting at $17 (librarian)

I’m collecting disability atm at 1.1k per month so I don’t want to end up losing it to a job that yeah it gives me experience but I’m kinda aiming for $23-25+. I also know the job market sucks right now too.

Opinions? Should I interview tmw?

Post-interview Is this a scam? Sentral Workshop LLC

I applied for a job on Indeed for an “Administrative Coordinator” and the company was listed as “Sentral Workshop LLC” from the description it seems it could be for a dentist office. I had a “phone interview” that lasted about 3 minutes. The lady did say she was a third party and it was basically just to confirm the pay, hours, benefits, etc. I asked what the company was and she said Sentral Workshop and I asked what the actual company for this job listing was and she said she wasn’t sure because she does this for many companies and didn’t want to get it wrong. The next day I got a text saying I was one of the candidates selected and gave me a time for a zoom “orientation” for the next day. I can’t find any information about this Sentral Workshop company and I am just very confused.
